The Shine Night Walk is an annual Cancer Research UK event held in 16 cities throughout the UK. The Glasgow Shine Night Walk will take place on August 31st, and many of Spectrum’s staff (29 so far) will participate to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
When we first suggested to the team that we take part, it was easy to get many people involved because we are doing it in memory of Claire Rankin, a valued colleague and friend to many. Sadly, Claire lost her battle with cancer in June this year; she is missed by all at Spectrum, both for her contribution at work and her personality that shone brightly at social events. So, the opportunity to take part in the Shine Night Walk in her memory and raise valuable funds for Cancer Research UK was welcomed by many in the Spectrum office.
The walk is a 10k route that starts and finishes at SEC Glasgow at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, 31 August. This year’s route takes in some well-known Glasgow landmarks, such as Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow University, Mitchell Library, The Royal Concert Hall, George Square, and the Duke of Wellington Statue (complete with cone). The route then works its way to the River Clyde, passing the BBC and STV buildings and ending back at the NEC.
Shine Night Walk provides the opportunity to light up Glasgow’s streets, walk for loved ones, walk for future generations, and walk with friends old and new to raise vital funds for life-saving research. In the last 50 years, we’ve helped double cancer survival in the UK.
We are all looking forward to the event, which we are sure will be a lot of fun on the night. But we will also remember Claire and the many other people sadly affected by cancer. We’d value your support for our efforts by donating on our JustGiving page.
If you’d like to support us, you can do so here.
Of course, we will share some pictures from the event on our social channels, and if you’re in town that night, please look out for us. We have included a link to the PDF of the Shine Night Walk route below so you can see the journey we will take.
