There is little doubt that challenges around mental health are increasing daily. Almost everyone will know at least one person who has been, or is still, affected by poor mental health. Fortunately, we are constantly learning more about the topic all the time. Still, it is essential to look after our mental health continually and to be vigilant about spotting signs when those around us may be struggling. That’s why we are not just happy to promote Mental Health Awareness Week; as a responsible employer, we see it as a duty.
Since early 2022, Spectrum has provided all personnel access to Spectrum.life; it is our Employee Assistance Programme or EAP, a proactive, behavioural risk management tool for Spectrum employees. It provides employees with easy access to a wide variety of mental health and practical services to help them through a range of personal or work-related issues while equipping them with the tools they need to protect and manage their mental health.
Spectrum.life can also support our people through any personal issues and help with any issues they may face as part of their role. The EAP also offers help and guidance to all our people, no matter their role, as well as their families.

The whole topic of mental health is complex. The Mental Health Foundation highlights that mental health and wellbeing are determined by a combination of biological, psychological and social factors; so, there are many elements to consider when exploring an individual’s mental health; invariably, the best way to provide support is to offer guidance and expert help. The Mental Health Foundation has many resources created by experts that can help people to understand the issues and identify what to look for that might reveal when you, or someone close to you, might be struggling. So, we encourage everyone to promote Mental Health Awareness Week from 12th to 18th May 2025.
You can start by downloading the Mental Health Foundation’s poster and displaying it prominently so that we can raise awareness of the issues and direct people to trusted resources that offer genuine help.

The Mental Health Foundation is challenging the way things are done and creating fundamental change in the UK’s approach to mental health by:
- Researching and developing new and more effective ways to support good mental health
- Providing everyone with evidence-backed advice and resources they can trust
- Running national campaigns and working with local communities to nurture good mental health
- Working with organisations across the UK and influencing decision-makers at all levels, to take the valuable lessons we’ve learned and adopt solutions that are proven to work.
They work across the four nations of the UK with offices in Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow and London.
