2014: Was a big year for Spectrum…now for 2015!
January is normally a time for planning the year ahead, and because of new business already secured, we’re are really looking forward to a busy 2015. However, we thought we’d round of the last 12 months with a look at what we achieved in 2014.
Last year saw Scotland shine on a world stage, so looking back on last year it’s with a sense of pride for all the work did, and for Scotland too.
It was a big year for Spectrum. We expanded the work that we do in many sectors such as our portfolio of schools where we have developed dynamic and highly trained teams. This is a constantly changing environment where our staff need awareness about all aspects of school life in order to develop appropriate solutions. It was a challenge we rose to and look forward to continuing.
There was an increase in the production, manufacturing and warehouse facilities contracts last year too. With these contracts we also tailor our service around production times, fluctuations in output and peak times such as the Christmas period just past.
We welcomed new property management companies to those who we already work with, it’s particularly pleasing to see this area of our business continuing to grow. The number of office facilities contracts and high specification car sales showrooms with which we work with has also grown.
We value all of this work and appreciate the support we get from our clients but it’s particularly pleasing when our hard work is recognised by others. We were nominated for four awards at Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce’s ROCCO Awards in November and we’re delighted to say we were once again winners of the Excellence in Customer Service category.
Our commitment to customer service was further rewarded when we were shortlisted for the Customer Service Award at the The Herald Family Business Awards in November; we were also commended in the Fastest Growing Family Business category.
This recognition came on the back of success earlier in the year when the Institute of Directors Scotland nominated Spectrum’s Managing Director, Sara Speirs for Glasgow & West of Scotland Regional Director and the Director Award for Sustainability Leadership.
Those who understand our values will know that protecting the environment plays an important part of all the work we do. In the run up to 1st January 2014 launch of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations we worked hard to provide free consultations and audits on waste to help businesses understand and meet the regulations.
We value the potential these regulations have to save businesses money and recognise their importance for our environment. Spectrum was, and remains, a leading voice in encouraging clients to make the most of these regulations. We’re proud to have supported businesses as they adapted to these changes as well as delivering a major Zero Waste to Landfill event at the Ryder Cup along with William Tracey Group.
Summer 2014 was a very busy period for Spectrum. Our management team love the thrill of event work and we were privileged to be at the heart of some once in a lifetime events. Last year saw our Events Team expand hugely when we took on over four hundred temporary event staff. We were delighted to see them adapt and rise to many challenges throughout the Summer as well as sharing a great laugh at the events where we worked.
In July the team headed to sunny Aberdeenshire for the Scottish Open. This saw us triumph at our very first golfing event and we definitely got the bug.
After seeing Justin Rose win and thoroughly cleaning up in Aberdeen, we were back to Glasgow and working at one of the biggest sporting events of the year which took place in some wonderful Scottish sunshine.
We were also proud to play a role behind the scenes at BBC at the Quay. Working in partnership with the music production company, our teams kept the areas tidy for BBC staff, entertainers, and audiences as well as ensuring everything was reinstated to it’s former condition after everyone packed up.
After that, it was off to Gleneagles for the Ryder Cup, one of the biggest golf events to date – for Scotland and Spectrum. Our team executed careful planning and scheduling to ensure that public areas were presentable all day throughout the event. We cleaned up after the players, officials and supporters of Ryder Cup Team Europe and Ryder Cup Team USA and managed all the waste generated. Thanks to our Event Team it was a great success for us, enjoyed even more because of Europe’s triumph on Scottish soil.
We are very happy that many of the staff who joined us for our big Summer of events have now found permanent positions with us or have become permanent fixtures in our Event Team
It was a phenomenal year and we really appreciate all of our staff, who work hard throughout to deliver excellent service to both our new and existing clients. We look forward to continuing working with you all and are excited to see what 2015 will bring.
Of course, none of our achievement would be possible without the great portfolio of clients that put their trust in us every year, we thank all of you for your continued support.
Finally, may we take this opportunity to wish each and every one a prosperous year in 2015.
