At Spectrum, we know when Summer has arrived because our Events Teams are fully mobilised to provide services at various events. Over the coming days, we are working on several events that started when the internationally famed rock band Muse hit the stage in Bellahouston Park on Friday, when thousands of fans gathered to watch what was a fantastic concert.
We were then back in Bellahouston Park last night for the Arctic Monkeys concert, one of 15 concerts that make up the European leg of their world tour. Then we’re back to the same venue on the 27th for Guns N’ Roses when the supergroup stops off as part of their acclaimed world tour.
So, many thousands of fans will visit Bellahouston over these five days, and our task is to keep the venue clean and safe for each one. But that’s not all we’re doing; we are also working at Glasgow Mela.
Founded in 1990, Glasgow Mela is the largest in the country. It’s a free multi-cultural festival bringing music, dance, arts and vibrancy to the heart of Glasgow’s West End. Traditionally, it’s attended by thousands of people, and this year’s event takes place on Sunday, 25th June, in Kelvingrove Park. Once again, our Events Team will be present and working hard to keep the venue clean and safe for the artists and their audiences.
However, it’s not all music festivals in the coming days; we’ve also got the Betfred British Masters at The Belfry. This year, it is hosted by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo from 28th June – 2nd July.
The Brabazon Course at The Belfry needs little introduction to golf fans; it has hosted the Ryder Cup on four occasions. Many of the world’s top golfers will compete over the four days, and large crowds are expected as usual. This is one of many golf events we will work at this year, providing cleaning and waste management services in all public, players, officials and press areas.
Spectrum’s Operations Director, Rebecca Bell, was excited about this year’s event season when she commented: “Our Events Teams have already been working hard at venues across the country, I was especially proud of the team at Hampden on Tuesday night who worked in extremely challenging circumstances to help ensure the game went ahead, and fans were safe during a deluge of rain.
“This year, our mass-participation events are off to a flying start with three concerts involving world-famous bands, an outdoor music festival and a significant golfing event, all in ten days. But we are ready, and everyone involved is excited about the summer ahead and looking forward to a big range of events.”
