We are delighted to be one of the sponsors of a fantastic fundraising initiative organised by Clan Cancer Support – Light up the North – The Lighthouse Trail.
The fundraising campaign is shining a light across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland with ‘Light the North‘ the lighthouse trail from August 9th to October 17th.
The sculpture trail will draw people to explore, not only in Aberdeen but the surrounding communities, Moray and the northern isles, to see over forty-five 2.5m tall lighthouses, which have been designed by some of the UK’s most talented artists. The event is made more special as the trail will be present in each area that Clan Cancer Support operates.
Since 1983, Clan has supported anyone affected by cancer, providing emotional and practical support to ensure those peoples wellbeing needs are being taken care of at all stages of the cancer journey.
Spectrum Service Solutions has sponsored one of the fifty 2.5 metre tall lighthouses that form the Lighthouse Trail. Our lighthouse is named “7th Wonder”, located at Beach Esplanade Benches in Aberdeen and was created by artist Kym Parker of Kilo Papa Studio.
Design Inspiration
Kym’s artwork has been inspired by the construction of the Bell Rock Lighthouse, which sits 11 miles off the coast of Arbroath, where she is from. Built in the early 1800’s it was a controversial, dangerous and seemingly impossible project with relentless challenges presented by the sea. But with clever construction and engineering, they did it, and it still stands and operates today.
It has been saving lives for over 200 years and is deservedly one of the 7th wonders of the industrial world. Kym wanted to pay homage to this impressive structure and the way it works with nature. She has created a juxtaposed design, painting the geometric alongside the organic and highlighting the beauty of both. She hopes it inspires us all when facing complex challenges, in particular the impossible ones.

About the Artist – Kym Parker of Kilo Papa Studio
Kym Parker is the artist behind Kilo Papa Studio. Initially trained in textile design and with a keen eye for detail, her patterns and doodles are inspired by anything from architecture to nature. Industrial patterns and organic shapes inform her intricate work and bring to life the recognisable subjects in which they reside. Her style is highly detailed, and she works with fine liner pens to create unique illustrations of just about anything that fills with the doodles and patterns that litter her mind. There’s nothing quite like the start (and finish) of one of her masterpieces!
At the end of the trail, each of the lighthouse sculptures will be auctioned off, and the funds raised will help Clan support even more people affected by cancer.
