Seven years ago this week, we were very busy working at the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, and all the talk in the build-up to this week’s matches bring fond memories of that glorious September back in 2014. This week, we may not be working at a global event, but it is no less important to the people of Scotland.
The Kiltwalk is a significant and much-needed fundraising opportunity for many of Scotland’s leading charities. Thousands of people will take part on Sunday the 26th of September to raise funds for their favourite charities, and Sir Tom Hunter’s foundation will donate a further 50% of what is raised on the day.
There are actually two walks; The Mighty Stride from Glasgow Green to Dumbarton and The Wee Wander from Glasgow Green to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow. The Mighty Stride is a total of 16.5 miles, while The Wee Wander is 3.5 miles and ideal for those who want to take part with young children. Regardless of which walk, the popularity and importance is significant for charities all over Scotland. When fundraising opportunities have been severely curtailed, this is an opportunity for thousands of people to enjoy a day out while helping worthy causes across the country.
As you can imagine, with thousands of people taking part, it is essential to keep the route clean, tidy and safe; that will be Spectrum’s priority on Sunday. It may not be televised and shared with a global audience, but our Events Team always enjoys the day because people participate with passion and good humour to help others. We are delighted to be part of this event once again.
If you’re taking part in the Kiltwalk on Sunday, please take time to say hello to anyone on the Spectrum Events Team, we’re a friendly bunch, and we’re there to help make the day as much fun as possible.
Finally, we’d like to wish the European Team every success in the Ryder Cup; let’s hope for the same result we had at Gleneagles back in 2014.
