Good news in the current climate is always welcomed with open arms, especially when that good news comes from close to home! It is even more special when that news is regarding a member of our Spectrum family receiving a highly distinguished award!
On Tuesday the 8th of September, our Operations Director, Rebecca Bell, was awarded the coveted ‘Young Director of the Year’ award by the Institute of Directors. These awards celebrate and honour the achievements of Scotland’s leading Directors, and for Rebecca to be awarded the ‘Young Director’ award is testament to her dedication and constant strive to improve not only herself but thewhole team.
The awards were held virtually this year due to the current situation with COVID-19. This was an all-time first for the IoD Awards in their long history and although not something we were used to, was a hugely enjoyable evening for all! All candidates tuned in through Zoom and were interviewed and presented with their awards by the wonderful host, Grant Stott.
It was commented by one of the judges that Rebecca “has a clear sense of leadership” and we couldn’t agree more, she brings a fresh approach and is not only a leader here at Spectrum but clearly a leader in Scottish business.
Speaking on her win Rebecca commented, “It is an incredible honour to be recognised in this way and although I received the award, I would not be here without my incredible team behind me supporting my every move! I want to thank Spectrum for empowering me, allowing me to take risks and create opportunities for the business, and I cannot wait to see what the future will bring for us. I would also like to add that it was a privilege to be up against so many talented and inspiring young directors, and I look forward to moving forward alongside them as the next generation of leaders ”.
On receiving her award, Rebecca wanted to give some advice to the next aspiring young Directors and Leader and she stated this – “Don’t be afraid, challenge yourself, be ambitious and set yourself some unreasonable goals”.
Rebecca furthered this by commenting, “it is vital that we support and recognise the next future aspiring leaders, who look up to us and may just need a push in the right direction to achieve their goals”
Our Managing Director Sara Speirs, who is a previous winner of an IOD Scotland award wanted to extend her congratulations to Rebecca from Spectrum by commenting “As a family company, we take huge pride when one of our own receives such an award and I feel is truly deserved due to Rebecca’s ongoing commitment and passion for Spectrum and Scottish business alike. However, awards like this are only made possible by the constant dedication and commitment from our team who go above and beyond to support each other, and it is with that I would like to extend my gratitude to our entire Spectrum family who should take pride in this award too”
Here at Spectrum, we are a company with high aspirations and are constantly looking to improve and develop and similarly hold ourselves to very high standards, and when this is recognised with awards such as this, it is a very special moment for our entire Spectrum family, and during difficult times like this, is a huge boost for everyone.
Well done Rebecca, and we wonder if you will keep the award on your mantlepiece at home or on your desk in the office!
