At Spectrum, we are fortunate enough to be in a position to have helped various charities over the years. This Winter, we are delighted to have partnered with Social Bite for their popular Sleep in the Park 2018 event in Glasgow that took place at Kelvingrove Bandstand on 8th December.
Social Bite is a Scottish social enterprise who aim to help the homeless and severely excluded backgrounds in our local communities. Their mission is to eradicate homelessness in Scotland, and do this through multiple not-for-profit sandwich shops, the Social Bite Village – which provides low cost, safe living for up to 20 homeless people for 12 months each, and the mass Sleep in the Park movement.
Last year, the world’s largest Sleep in the Park movement was held in Princes Gardens in Edinburgh, seeing over 8000 people raise £4 million for a call to end homelessness in Scotland. The money raised helped fund major programs to reduce homelessness and contributed significantly to the creation of the Social Bite Village in Edinburgh.
This year, the event returned bigger than ever with a nationwide sleep out across 4 cities: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee. The event welcomed over 10,000 fundraisers to sleep under the stars in aid of Social Bite and numerous other worthy causes across Scotland. So far, Sleep in the Park 2018 has raised over £3.2 million, with funds still coming in.
Spectrum is pleased to have offered cleaning and waste services for Social Bite’s Glasgow Sleep in the Park free of charge. Our work included putting together a thorough cleaning and waste management plan, and we had a team working at the event throughout the night as well as providing site clearance services afterwards, ensuring for a safe and efficient break down.
Our role was important to keep the venue clean and safe for all. Thousands descended on Kelvingrove Park for the overnight sleep out, resulting in a lot of litter and waste which needed a well-executed cleaning process in place to be managed effectively. We are delighted that so many of our staff were eager to work at this event. Our whole team really wanted to be involved in supporting the fantastic work of this charity, and the team who worked over the course of the evening did a fantastic job.
We look forward to getting involved with Social Bite in the future and hope that the charity’s ambitious targets can be met to help end homelessness in Scotland forever.
Well done to everyone involved in the Sleep in the Park event throughout all 4 cities, you have helped raise vital funds for a very worthy cause.
