A dramatic finale to the 2019 Solheim Cup saw Team Europe claim victory after a thrilling competition which went to the wire. Catriona Matthews’ team held their nerve to defeat the USA, with Suzann Pettersen’s winning putt giving Europe a 14.5-13.5 win in the biennial team competition. The stand-alone women’s sporting event generated huge crowds of around 90,000 spectators who were rewarded with a genuine sporting drama.
Whilst the two teams battled it out through the week, Spectrum worked diligently in the background to provide players, spectators, contractors and stakeholders with clean and fresh facilities.
Spectrum provided the cleaning and janitorial services to the event, including hospitality, grandstands, on course toilets, public catering areas, spectator refreshment areas, etc.
On Thursday night, Sharleen Spiteri’s Texas took to the stage to tee-off the Opening Ceremony, delighting thousands of fans who enjoyed a day of live music and family entertainment. Following the end of their set, Bjorn Again entertained the crowds, whilst Spectrum dealt with residual waste and litter. Once spectators left for the night, work began to prepare the venue for the next day, converting the stage seating into an open area to enjoy the golf within the Village on big screens.
Team Europe ended the first day of play with a narrow lead, meanwhile a windy Saturday saw both teams draw level, teeing up a thrilling final day. Spectrum worked conscientiously throughout the event to ensure golf fans enjoyed the spectacular location and facilities.
In partnership with IMG & the Scottish Government, Spectrum supplied the event with sanitary products that were available to the public free of charge as part of the Scottish Government’s scheme to fight period poverty. Any unused items following the event will be donated to a local charity, to be distributed to those who need it most.
The Spectrum Team head to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship next, where Spiderman actor Tom Holland has been confirmed along with Open champion Shane Lowry & many more famous faces.
With only the Alfred Dunhill Links left in our golf calendar this year, we’re already looking forward to the 2020 events!
