Working with Hampden Park Stadium means we are privileged to see behind the scenes and appreciate the multi-function nature of the national stadium. Known primarily as a football stadium, Hampden Park is so much more; it’s a well-used conference and exhibition centre and a fantastic concert venue.
Over the summer, Hampden has hosted some of the biggest names in entertainment; global superstars like Coldplay, Liam Gallagher, Ed Sheeran and Calvin Harris have packed in the crowds during 2022. The stadium has hosted major sporting events like the Commonwealth Games and as an Olympic venue for football in 2014.
This summer, the team at Hampden hosted all of these concerts and a full calendar of football fixtures. Who can forget the emotional and nail-biting World Cup playoff match against Ukraine in early June or the excitement of the semi-finals and final of the Scottish Cup in May? So it is a truly functional and flexible venue we should be proud to have in Glasgow.
Using the venue for various events is a massive task, and we have to compliment the management at Hampden for the planning and execution that goes into transforming such a vast area in a relatively short time. We are more fortunate than most that we get to see the complexity and scale of the task, so we thought we’d share some pictures taken throughout the summer that show the stadium being used as a concert venue, and then the pitch as it is now ahead of this week’s international matches.
Hampden welcomes Ukraine again tonight and the Republic of Ireland on Saturday for the Nations League games. Hampden looks resplendent, and we wish the Scottish team our best in both games.
