Celebrating excellent performance internally leads to success externally

If you regularly follow our blogs and social media, you will know that we frequently celebrate our people with staff interviews and our Employee of the Month announcements. However, this year, we’ve gone one step further and introduced our Employee of the Year Awards.

Last month, our senior management team and the finalists gathered in our Head Office in Paisley to celebrate their successes, enjoy some food and announce the winners of our various awards for 2022. Because of the nature of our work, it’s not always that we get so many people in one place, so it was great to spend time with our high achievers and recognise them for the effort and commitment they demonstrate on their own respective sites throughout the country.

Here is a summary of the day and our inaugural Employee of the Year Awards winners.

Spectrum’s Managing Director, Sara Speirs, introduced the event with an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication shown by the whole team at Spectrum, but in particular, the ones who made it to the final stages of the Employee of the Year Awards for 2022. Sara handed over to our Operations Director, Rebecca Bell, who announced the winners.

First up was Cleaning Operative of the Year.

To be named in this category, the nominees have demonstrated the following:

  • A passion for the service we deliver to our customers
  • Great care for the job they do
  • Huge flexibility in supporting the Management Team
  • Excellent customer service
  • Represented Spectrum to the highest standard
  • Support for others, guiding them to succeed and displaying excellent teamwork

There were three outstanding candidates for this award, and it was genuinely tough to choose an outright winner, but that’s what we had to do. However, any one of the three would have been worthy winners. Ultimately, the Gold went to Mary Hughes, with Brenda Bradie named in Silver place and Christine Hockham in Bronze position. We congratulate all of them and thank them for their hard work and dedication.

Next up was Supervisor of the Year

The nominees in this category are individuals whose support has been integral to the success of the contract where they lead.

The nominees for this category have demonstrated the following:

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Clear initiative with a focus on delivering the best service for Spectrum and our Clients
  • A drive to succeed
  • Care and skill in training and supporting others
  • Excellent customer service and strong relationships with clients

Once again, it was difficult to pick just three finalists because so many of our supervisors are doing such good work with their clients. It was then even tougher to pick a winner; again, any of the three deserved the accolade. But a winner had to be chosen, and we were delighted to announce Audrey Cox as Gold, Brian Hume as Silver and Tracy McKay in Bronze. We congratulate all three and thank them for their contribution throughout 2022 and now into 2023.

Next was Mobile Operative of the Year

Being a Mobile Cover Operative can be particularly demanding due to the amount of travel and variable shift patterns.

However, this critical role enables us to deliver the best service to our customers.

Our winner for 2022 is Travis MacLeod, who joined our business in late 2021. Travis is known for being incredibly polite and hard-working, and it has been a pleasure to watch his growth and development over the last year.

Growth and personal development are critical to the Management Team; we always seek people who stand out and look like potential future leaders. So, our next award is vital to us; it allows us to identify and reward people who have caught our eye over the past year – our Rising Start Award.

We are delighted to announce the Rising Star Award for 2022 went to Claire Rankin. Claire, now Site Manager of Hampden Park Stadium, joined our business in 2014 for the Commonwealth Games.

Since then, Claire has been the ideal candidate for development, regularly showing her care and commitment to Spectrum. Claire quickly became a Supervisor in a Call Centre before becoming a Mobile Supervisor in Glasgow City.

As our partnership with Hampden grew, we recognised the need for a site-based Manager, and we couldn’t ignore Claire’s potential to meet the challenge.

Claire exhibits exceptional planning skills and attention to detail and instils a great team ethic within the workforce. We congratulate her for all she has achieved so far and look forward to continuing to work with her to see what she can accomplish with Spectrum in the future.

It was great to see all the finalists in the office together and to spend time with them away from their respective sites. We thank them and the wider workforce, who have performed exceedingly well in 2022. We look forward to selecting and celebrating this year’s winners in what is sure to be an eagerly anticipated annual event at Spectrum.

Below, you will see some pictures captured on the day.
