We enjoy working at all events, but there’s something special about working at The Open. Undoubtedly the most significant global sporting event of this week and arguably one of the biggest of the year, The Open is unique. It’s the fourth Major in the Golfing calendar this year, and it’s the one every golfer dreams of winning.
This week, we’re excited to be working at Royal Liverpool, the host club for the 151st staging of this historic event. The leading golfers from around the globe will descend on the Liverpool course to participate in what promises to be an exciting and testing challenge leading to one winner lifting the much-coveted claret jug.
Adding to the excitement is Rory McIlroy’s win last week in the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, another event where we were delighted to be working. Of course, it’s not just Rory’s obvious good form creating the excitement; it’s also because he won the last time The Open was hosted at Royal Liverpool.
McIlroy is here, complete with his Scottish Open trophy, but our events team have been preparing on-site for many days. During this week, we are cleaning the public villages, sponsor’s and partner’s structures, hospitality areas, and the areas set aside for players, contractors, officials and technical personnel. In addition, we will be responsible for litter picking, providing hygiene services and products, and replenishing consumables. With such high interest in the event and a massive volume of golfing fans expected, it is an enormous task for which we’re well prepared.
Speaking about this week’s Open Championship, Rebecca Bell, Spectrum’s Operations Director, commented: “Even though we’ve worked with the R&A at several Open Championships in the past, the scale of this event never ceases to amaze. We’ve been planning for this week for months, and it’s great to be here and start putting our preparations into action finally.
“This is the biggest sporting event happening globally this week, and we’re delighted to be at the centre of things. It’s hard work for the whole team but enjoyable and exciting for everyone.
“We are proud of our events record, especially golf tournaments; last week it was the Genesis Scottish Open, and this week, The Open, it’s a real testament to the team at Spectrum that we win and retain contracts for these globally recognised events.”
We wish all the players our best as they take on the challenge of Royal Liverpool and the pressure of competing in a Major. For Spectrum, it’s back-to-back golf events and back-to-back Open Championships; who knows, we may even witness a back-to-back winner!
