Major global sporting events don’t just happen, especially The Open Championship! Even though this magnificent sporting event has been held 152 times, the planning to bring everything together for the 153rd Open is immense.
For Spectrum, we started planning in the latter part of 2024. We’ve been on site at Royal Portrush since the beginning of March, and now, with a less than a week to go, the intensity has increased enormously, along with the sense of anticipation and excitement
Tiring as it is, we never tire of this event. Working with the R&A is a pleasure and a privilege, one that we don’t take for granted. The eyes of the golfing world will focus on this beautiful part of Northern Ireland next week when the cream of the planet’s golfers gather to compete for the coveted Claret Jug and the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. We are delighted to be part of it and to play a part in what is sure to be another memorable championship.
We are also grateful to the hundreds of other contractors who come together to make it all work. Once again, as in years past, we have enjoyed the camaraderie and collaboration with many of them as we work towards the common goal of having the course and facilities ready to receive golfers, officials, and golf fans from around the globe.
It is challenging to describe the meticulous planning and hard work undertaken by everyone on-site. Still, we hope the accompanying pictures give you a better idea of the scale of the task and the volume of people who work tirelessly in the run-up to the first tee time next Thursday morning.
Of course, our work doesn’t stop when the first ball is struck; instead, we move into the busiest period of all. Starting with the practice days, our teams will work from first light until dusk and beyond. We must ensure that all players, officials, technical staff, press, and public areas are maintained at all times. As we say, it’s tiring, but it’s exciting and ultimately rewarding to have been part of something of the scale and global importance as the 153rd Open Championship.
Watch our social media channels throughout the Open, where we will post some updates from Royal Portrush.
