‘The biggest ever’, and the Spectrum events team will be there

It’s not unusual for the Spectrum events teams to work at the biggest global sporting events; the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool was undoubtedly the biggest sporting event happening in the world a couple of weeks ago. However, we think the event we’re working on for the next two weeks is a first for Spectrum because it’s billed as the biggest event of its kind EVER!

The UCI Cycling World Championships is taking place in Glasgow from the 3rd until the 13th of August, and we’ll play a supporting role at some key venues. The event brings together the world’s greatest cyclists who will compete across 13 UCI Cycling World Championships in the ultimate tests of talent, tenacity and toughness. And in the organisers’ words, it’s the “biggest cycling event ever”.  In celebration of the biggest cycling event in history, the highly anticipated event will kick off with an action-packed Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 2nd August and will feature an exciting line-up of activities, personalities, dance, spoken word and a headline performance by multi-award-winning Scottish singer KT Tunstall.

Of course, it’s not just the best cyclists gathering in Glasgow; stewards, marshalls, officials, sponsors and the world’s press will be here to capture every moment. And undoubtedly, thousands of fans will turn out to see the action as it unfolds at each venue.

Spectrum will provide cleaning, sanitary, and consumables services at George Square, the venue for the Opening Ceremony and the Road Races. We will provide the same services at Glasgow Green, where competitors and cycling fans will gather for the BMX Festival and Trials, and Knightswood, the venue for the BMX Racing competition. Finally, we’ll have a team at Sir Chris Hoy & Emirates Arena for the Indoor Cycling events.

Picture of Rebecca BellWe are thrilled to be working at all of these venues for what promises to be a fast-paced and exciting ten days. Speaking about this latest event, Spectrum’s Operations Director, Rebecca Bell, Said: “It’s fantastic to be involved with another global event, especially here in Glasgow. The best cyclists in the world are coming, and the spotlight will again be on the city.

“Our previous experience working at multi-venue events like the Commonwealth Games is also invaluable; it takes a great deal of planning to ensure the right people are deployed at each location when needed, but we’re delighted that we’re finally getting underway in what promises to be a great, but exceptionally busy two weeks.”
