It’s been another momentous year at Spectrum; in fact, it’s been our best-ever year. Aptly, it’s also our 20th Anniversary year, although our ongoing growth hasn’t allowed us to celebrate it as fully as we’d have liked, so expect to see more about that in the early part of the year.
So what’s kept us so busy? We’ve already published a blog about a record year for the Events Teams who have performed exceptionally well throughout the year, culminating in last weekend’s Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden Park. If you missed the piece, you can catch up on a very eventful year here.
We’ve continued to add new contracts, extend existing contracts, move into new geographical locations, and win awards. All in all, we’re delighted with 2023, and it’s all down to the performance of the whole team. Without their support, dedication, and commitment to customer service, we could not have achieved as much as we have throughout the year.
We are fortunate that the year started well with many new contracts already in the pipeline from the year before, and we’re pleased to announce it’s the same again this year – more about that later.
In 2023, we have been fortunate to add many more global brands to the client portfolio, starting with the most prominent organisation in golf, the R&A. We were delighted to win the contract for their amazingly popular new facility, Golf It at Hogganfield Loch in Glasgow.
Leading specialist property consultants, Fisher German appointed us to provide a range of services at one of their locations in Aberdeen, adding to the work we already provide to them. And another existing client extended their relationship with us when Scottish Ambulance Service appointed us in three further locations, Douglas, Annan and Lockerbie.
One of the noticeable and gratifying things about 2023 is the volume of work that has come from contract renewals and extensions of work with existing clients. It is a testament to the hard work and service provided across the workforce at Spectrum.
We were delighted to be reappointed by the V&A Dundee; it’s hard to believe it’s been five years since they opened. We’ve been working with them every step of the way, and we are delighted that it is continuing as a result of our reappointment.
It’s a similar situation with Emerson, the global technology, software and engineering organisation; we have worked with them for some time at their facilities in Aberdeen and Cumbernauld. We were delighted when they added three new locations to our contract, not only because they are pleased with our performance, but also because it means a positive move into markets in the South. We are pleased to be working with them now in Stockton, Stockport and Leicester. It provides us with the opportunity to develop our business in those and other areas in England. We also extended existing partnerships with CBRE with a prestigious Aberdeen based site and their HQ in Glasgow.
Closer to home, we also added some globally recognised names, Triumph Motorcycles in Hillington, Glasgow, Altrad Babcock in Renfrew, Piramal Pharma Solutions in Grangemouth, Jewish Care’s Walton Community Care Centre, all of which became valued Spectrum clients.
One of the closest to home was also one of the most significant awards of the year when we were appointed by Renfrewshire, headquartered Malcolm Group, to provide a range of services at 15 locations throughout Scotland.
Meanwhile, we added one of the most respected names in retail to our growing client portfolio, Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh, where we provide a range of services in their store and their Customer Service Centre at St Andrew Square. It is probably one of the biggest shopping attractions in Edinburgh; however, we were also delighted to win the contract for one of the biggest tourist attractions, not just in Edinburgh, but perhaps also in the UK – Edinburgh Zoo.
Yang Ghang and Tian Tian, the renowned giant pandas, may have returned home, but our team were lucky enough to be appointed before they left for their new life in China. Life goes on at the Zoo, and our team have many other loveable friends on site as they provide a full range of daily services in all of the public areas.
Sticking with animals, we were delighted to sponsor a giant hare in this year’s fundraising event for our clients and friends at Clan Cancer Support in Aberdeen. We were pleased with the design and attention our hare received while it was on display at Duthie Park as part of The Big Hop campaign. The campaign was a massive success, and we’d like to thank all of our fellow sponsors for joining us in the campaign.
As we have already mentioned, all of this success would be impossible without the drive, determination, commitment and dedication of our people. That’s why we are delighted to host our first-ever Employee of the Year Awards in 2023 as an extension of our long-established Employee of the Month. You can read about the inaugural winners here, and we look forward to celebrating with this year’s winners in the 1st quarter of 2024.
So, it’s been a hectic year; this blog only covers the commercial element of the business, and it was equally busy for the Events Teams. Fittingly, the end of the year brought us well-deserved recognition with some award wins. Firstly, we were named winners of the 2023 Best Performing Business (Over 25 Employees) at this year’s ROCCO Awards in Renfrewshire. And for the first time, we were also sponsors of an award category.
Success at the ROCCOs was quickly followed up with a double win at The Herald Family Business of the Year Awards in Glasgow. We were super-excited and thrilled when our long-standing team member, Helen Love was named winner of the Special Recognition Award, and equally delighted that Rebecca Bell, our Operations Director, was named winner of the Next Generation Award; congratulations to both. Rebecca was also honoured with the Family Business IoD Scotland Director of the Year!
To round off, we’d want to wish all of our clients, staff and suppliers all the very best over the festive period; we appreciate what each and everyone involved with Spectrum does to contribute to our success, and we look forward with anticipation to resuming our relationships in 2024.
