We are delighted to introduce our latest client interview video, this time with Nicky McLellan, Facilities Coordinator for Schuh at their Distribution Centre in Bathgate and their Head Office building in Livingstone.

Spectrum is delighted to work at both locations and we were pleased that Nicky was able to take time to chat about the range of services we provide at each of the location.

You would be forgiven for thinking that Schuh is a German retail brand, in fact the name was inspired by the German fashion footwear magazine, Schuhe. However, Schuh began with one store in Edinburgh back in 1981 and has grown to be one of the biggest high street retailers in the UK and Ireland.  Fittingly, their first retail venture in Europe was in Oberhausen, Germany where they opened a store in 2015.

Throughout the noughties, Schuh’s online presence grew to meet the demand of consumers who were increasingly willing to buy footwear online.  The innovative retailer has carried on its tradition of challenging conventional retailing with its ecommerce offering with the introduction of initiatives like 365 day customer service.

The fantastic expansion of the retail outlets and the growth of the online store created the obvious need for high quality head office accommodation and a highly efficient distribution centre, both are now firmly established in central Scotland.

Spectrum is delighted to provide a full range of services to both centres.  These services include; routine daily cleaning of offices, toilets, shower rooms, locker rooms, Board and meeting rooms, stairways, receptions, restaurants, break out areas and kitchens.  These daily services also include a full waste management service at both sites.

In addition to this we provide, IT equipment deep cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, window cleaning, deep cleaning of flooring in the retail outlet, and deep cleaning and sanitation of work stations.  All in all, it is a comprehensive range of services specially tailored to suit the Schuh operation and ensure the head office and distribution centre are always clean and ready for their busy workforce 24 hours a day.

To compliment the cleaning services, we also supply a wide variety of products and consumables for their washrooms, hand sanitisers and feminine hygiene toilet vending machines.  In addition to this, we provide barrier matting, logo mats and even temporary barrier matting for inclement weather.

We are grateful to Nicky for taking the time to talk about the Spectrum service and a little about why he chose to work with Spectrum.  We hope you find the video useful, and if you have any questions about the services we provide in Livingston and Bathgate, please email us at info@spectrumservicesolutions.com or call us on 0141 887 5000, we will be delighted to assist in any way we can.

Everyone’s a winner on The Kiltwalk…

Sunday 5th June saw the second event in our sponsorship of The Kiltwalk 2016. This time we headed north for the Aberdeen Kiltwalk which took place in and around the beautiful setting of the Granite City. The weather also played its part, it was a gorgeous day to be out walking, especially if you were also raising money for children’s charities at the same time.

Spectrum is not only a sponsor of The Kiltwalk, we also provide the clean-up service making sure the whole route is left litter free, but it is a very enjoyable day when we get to engage with the walkers and encourage them as they proceed along the route.

There were three different starting points on the walk with entrants choosing the distance that best suited them.  The full walk is a 26 mile route aptly named, “The Mighty Stride” starting at Duthie Park in Aberdeen, these hardy walkers are then joined by those electing for the 15.5 mile “Big Stroll” at Drumoak Playing Fields, then the final group settling for the 8 mile challenge, “The Wee Wander”, join the others at the King George V Park in Banchory.

The weather was very kind to everyone, which was just reward for the hundreds of people who gave up their time to raise funds for some of the most deserving children’s causes in Scotland, we applaud everyone who took part in the event and hope that we will see them all again next year.

The next leg of our Kiltwalk sponsorship takes us to Speyside on the 14th August, if you want to join any of the three routes that day you should enter now and help this great cause to raise even more for the children of Scotland, we’d love to see you there on the day.

Below, you can see some pictures from the Aberdeen Kiltwalk and a short video about our sponsorship of these great events.

You can enter for the Speyside Kiltwalk here.   Alternative, you can enter the final Kiltwalk of 2016 in Edinburgh on the 18th September by clicking here.

We are doing the The Kiltwalk again…

We are delighted to announce that once again we are working with The Kiltwalk in 2016. What’s more, we are not just providing services, we are an official sponsor, and we are encouraging our staff to actually enter teams at the four events.

This may not be the Olympic or Commonwealth Games, but it is just as important to the people it helps to support – the children of Scotland.

It is estimated that this year’s events will touch the lives of 150,000 children, with 100% of the money raised going to children’s charities and local causes throughout Scotland.  This is possible due to the vision and support of Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation.  The Kiltwalk management team works tirelessly to ensure your efforts entirely help the children that need your support.

As already mentioned, this is not a major sporting event, but that’s what makes it so appealing; almost anyone can take part at one of the four eventsGlasgow (24th April), Aberdeen (5th June), Speyside (14th August) and Edinburgh (18th September).  Spectrum Event Services will be at all of them.  We are tasked with keeping the routes clean and tidy, and managing the waste along the whole of the courses and the various pit stops along the way – a tall order with thousands of people taking part over various distances at each event.

We are truly delighted to be supporting The Kiltwalk again this year, keeping the courses clean and disposing of the waste responsibly is an important element and we are pleased the management have chosen to work with Spectrum to provide these services.  Below you can see what Anthony Grogan, Kiltwalk Events Manager has to say about our involvement with them.

If you would like to take part in The Kiltwalk, you can enter here.

If you can’t take part in any of the events, but you’d like to make a donation, you can do so here.

It’s no walk in the park, there’s more to it than meets the eye

Last year we published a blog about the work we do at the Hillington Park Innovation Centre which highlighted the way the building is used and the demands created by a building occupied by a wide variety of tenants, imagine then the demands of looking after a whole business park! In fact, the business park in question is where the Innovation Centre is located – Hillington Business Park.

Spectrum Service Solutions has been providing a wide range of services at this 2 million sq ft business park for almost 7 Years. Home to more than 500 businesses, workplace for over 8000 employees, and one of the biggest business parks in Scotland, you can imagine the daily demands of keeping the estate clean, tidy and presentable for the thousands of people who work there or visit it every day.

Hillington Plan

There’s much more to this contract than people may imagine; it’s not just external work we do, we provide internal cleaning for many of the multi-tenanted buildings managed by CBRE, and many others where work directly with the tenants.  This includes, office, warehouse, and industrial spaces, toilets, kitchens, and sanitation of vending machines.  It also includes the provision and installation of hygiene services, air fresheners, seat sanitisers, disposal bins, and internal & external waste management bins for all waste streams. In fact, we provide a very wide range of consumables to tenants throughout the business park.

Moreover, it’s not just the provision of the bins, we also provide the waste management service for all waste streams, programmed and reactive, including WEEE designated waste.  Add to this, window cleaning, internal & external landscaping, ground maintenance, repairs to yards & pathways, gritting & snow clearance, and car park & road sweeping and you can start to get a picture of the scale of the contract.

Merlin House

However, it doesn’t stop there, everything we’ve mentioned so far is part of a scheduled programme of works, there’s just as many additional services provided as and when they are required. This may include; deep cleaning works on fabrics, finishes, fixture & fittings, carpets, and other floor finishes. It also includes internal and external high level cleaning, façade cleaning, and window blind maintenance. Of course, with so many people working in the business park there are many kitchens, all of which require periodic deep cleaning and maintenance of extraction systems, we provide all of this too.

Some time ago, the client was kind enough to talk about what we do at Hillington, and the manner in which we do it, you can see the short video below.  Perhaps the kindest comment is the recognition of what we try to achieve when Alison says, “Spectrum is a customer service organisation that happens to clean”, this is what we strive for with every contract, no matter what the size and it’s really appreciated when the clients notice how often we exceed their expectations.

Backing up what Alison said, we recently received a letter from Claire McCluskey, Facilities Manager, CBRE Management Service in which she said, “…I have worked closely with Spectrum for several years now and have always found them to be a highly reliable company with excellent standards.  Their staff are friendly and professional and are popular amongst staff, tenants and also our clients.”

It’s been another great football season for Spectrum…but don’t take our word for it.

Posted on May 28th, 2015 in Events, Testimonial

Saturday sees the end of another successful football season for Spectrum. If you’ve been following our blog, you will know that Spectrum Service Solutions are present at Hampden Park for all major football matches, and Saturday’s game is one of the biggest, and oldest, occasions on the Scottish football calendar – the Scottish Cup Final.

This year’s final will be a keenly contested affair between two equally matched sides, Inverness Caledonian Thistle take on Falkirk in what promises to be an entertaining game; we wish both sides all the best for Saturday.

This is the last game of the current season, but we’ll be back for the very important UEFA European Championship Qualifier against Germany on 7th September.

We think we’ve had a great season; lots of hard work, but lots of fun too. But, don’t take our word for it, in the video below you can hear what Brian Muir, Safety & Operations Manager, Hampden Park has to say about the service we provide at the stadium.

Brian was kind enough to record this short video explaining why he likes working with Spectrum, providing some insights to the way we work, and why he believes he can rely on us whether it’s for a football match, concert or sporting event.

The Ryder Cup, Shopping Mall or Call Centre…what’s the difference?

If you’ve been following our blog or social media channels this year you will have seen a great deal about the enormous projects we’ve been privileged to be involved with.  It’s been a fantastic year for Scotland, and for Spectrum; we’ve been the official cleaning and waste management contractor at two of the biggest sporting events in the world – and they took place within weeks of each other!

You can image the challenges of managing large levels of staff for such events, but we rose to the challenge and we’re looking forward to more of the same in 2015.

It’s not only major events that pose specific challenges; some of our other contracts require special solutions. For example, public buildings such as visitor and shopping centres can’t simply rely on ‘the cleaners’ arriving at close of play, public buildings need to be clean all the time.  Consumers are more and more difficult to attract and they are influenced by what they see; a dirty or untidy retail space is not conducive to attracting footfall.

William Grant

Neither do the consumers wish to see cleaning staff more than they need to; they expect it to be ‘magically’ clean and ready for them to explore.  That’s where clever cleaning schedules come into play, helping to keep all public areas clean – all day.

Similar issues exist in office environments.  Take Call Centre operations; they work 24 hours a day, so there is no end to the working day when traditionally ‘the cleaner’ comes in.  However, every shift expects a clean and tidy working environment – and so they should.  In such cases, our cleaning schedules are clearly defined by the rotation of the staff our clients employ.  So, no matter what shift they work, they enjoy the same clean environment.

So you see, the traditional cleaner is a thing of the past, staff now have to be trained to work when they are needed, and they need to work around the people they serve.  Moreover, the waste that is generated must be properly handled and disposed of in the correct manner.

Spectrum has achieved a great deal this year, and we’ve proved that each and every job has it’s own special demands  In a strange way, that’s one of the things that makes our job so interesting – so, Ryder Cup, Shopping Mall or Call Centre…what’s the difference?  Actually, there is no difference, each requires the same scheduling and planning!

This month Spectrum Service Solutions won the ROCCO Customer Service Award for 2014 – quite a feat when you consider how many customers we actually served!

A Gleaming Analysis Of Spectrum From Scotland’s Largest Industrial Estate

Posted on January 13th, 2014 in Testimonial

Usually when you visit a website you’re reading what the organisation wants you to read but at Spectrum we thought we’d do things a bit differently.

Rather than only learning what we want you to learn we thought we’d let one of our clients tell you all about us too. Why? Because we’re confident that the work our staff carry out is of the highest standard possible.

We’ve just added a ‘testimonials’ section on our website and shortly our first addition, a video, will be available to view.

But those of you reading this blog post are about to get a preview of the video right here. Just head to the bottom of this post to watch it.

Alison Clark, the Marketing and Customer Manager at MEPC, who operates Hillington Park Industrial Estate was more than happy to dish the dirt on us.

HIllington Park Industrial estate is Scotland’s largest industrial and business estate, spanning over 417 acres.

The site is home to over 270 organisations with over 3,000 employees directly engaged in manufacturing, distribution, technology and the service sectors.

Due to the wide range of sectors operating within the site, our staff regularly come across an array of jobs, jobs which we never fail to handle.

We’re sure you’ll be able to tell from the sheer size of the estate that there’ll be a lot of work that goes into it’s upkeep, but as Alison describes, Spectrum are more than a match for the wide range of services we provide at the site, referring to us as “a management team who happen to clean”.

We don’t want to mention too much from the video and steal the limelight from Alison, so sit back and listen to her analysis on Spectrum Service Solutions.

To learn more about Spectrum Service Solutions or any of our services please visit our website, drop us an email, or give us a call on: 0141 887 5000.

Remember you can also keep up-to-date with all that we’re doing through our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts.
