Spectrum is no stranger to football, we have enjoyed a first-class relationship with Hampden Park for 10 years, so we are used to preparing stadiums for match days.  This experience was invaluable in helping us secure our latest contract in a competitive tender process. We are delighted to announce that we will be providing a wide range of services for Heart of Midlothian Football Club at Tynecastle Park in Edinburgh.

The football club is well into its ambitious redevelopment of the stadium which will see the capacity extended to over 20,000.  The plans also include new hospitality suites and corporate entertainment areas throughout the ground.  Furthermore, there will be significant upgrades to the main Reception Area, Players’ Lounge, Media Suite and Police Control Room.  On completion, Tynecastle is set to be one of the best football stadiums in the country.

Spectrum is delighted to have been selected to provide daily office cleaning and event cleaning services, pre and post match deep cleans, window cleaning, consumables, function suite cleaning, waste services, external cleaning and specialist cleaning.  And to kick it all off, we will be providing the initial sparkle clean when the redevelopment is complete.

Speaking about the contract win, Sara Speirs, Managing Director at Spectrum said, “We are very excited about this latest win.  The redevelopment of Tynecastle Park is a major investment for the club and it will provide one of the best football facilities in the country, naturally we are delighted to be involved with a club that clearly has big ambitions on and off the pitch.  We are looking forward to working with the team at Hearts in the future”.

This week sees a double first for Spectrum as we prepare for the British Masters at Close House in Newcastle upon Tyne.  It’s by no means our first golfing event, we’ve worked extensively with the European Tour at the Ryder Cup, five Scottish Opens and the recent Ladies Scottish Open and Scottish Seniors Open, however we have never worked at the British Masters and it’s our first time working at a European Tour event in South of the border.

We are delighted to be working with the European Tour again, especially at such a prestigious event with such a good field of players who will be watched live all over the world.

Like the strong filed of competitors, we’ve spent the first part of the week doing our preparations; whilst the players have been fine tuning their swings and perfecting their putting, we’ve been putting the finishing touches to the many areas we’re responsible for during the competition.  Over and above the vast open areas on the course, we also provide cleaning and waste management services for all other public areas; this includes, public catering, merchandising, corporate hospitality suites, VIP areas, official and technical areas and BOH operational areas.

As you can imagine, large crowds spread across many acres of this beautiful Newcastle course will create many challenges, and with worldwide TV coverage of the event, it is essential to keep it clean, tidy and free of waste at all times.  The preparations are almost complete and we’re looking forward to welcoming large crowds for the practice and competition days.  We wish all the competitors the best of luck as they too take on the challenges presented at Close House.

Below are some of the pictures from the various areas which are now ready to receive hospitality guests and spectators.

Earls Gate

Separately, but within the same development, we will be providing a range of services to international market leader, FujiFilm.  For them we will be providing cleaning services in the offices, canteen areas, mess rooms and locker rooms.  This will also include hygiene and washroom services, waste disposal services (including confidential waste), laundry services and the provision of bottled water.

For CalaChem, we will be providing cleaning and janitorial services to offices, kitchens, toilets, laboratories, mess rooms, changing rooms and locker rooms.  In addition, we will be providing reception services and management services for stores, consumables, water and pest control.

Once again, the team at Spectrum are delighted to be involved with companies that are market leaders, at a site which plays a major part in Scotland’s chemical industry.

These contract wins are the latest in a string of successes we’ve been reporting since the start of 2017, it is testament to the hard work and dedication shown throughout the team at Spectrum.  It certainly has been an exceptional period and we’re looking forward to bringing you news of other new contracts over the summer months.

It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that Spectrum Events’ 2017 calendar is about to get into full swing; yes, we’ve already been very busy this year with domestic and international football at Hampden Park, not to mention a sell-out Stone Roses concert, and 250,000+ people to clean up after at The Royal Highland Show.  Now, we are turning our attention to the fairways and greens of competitive golf to provide services to the biggest golf events taking place in Scotland this year.

This week we are delighted to be working with the European Tour for the fifth consecutive year at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open Championship which takes place at Dundonald Links from the 12th – 16th July.  The Spectrum Events Team have been at the Ayrshire course all week preparing for some of the biggest names in golf as they compete for the much-coveted title of Scottish Open Champion 2017.  As usual, the Scottish Open will be broadcast around the world and remains one of the few European Tour events that is shown live on American television.

With some of the greatest golfers in the game registered to play, the Ayrshire course is certain to draw a massive crowd, so we know we have a busy few days ahead to keep all public areas clean and free of waste.  However, our duties at these major golf events go far beyond the public areas of the course – we also provide cleaning and waste management services for all other public areas; this includes, public catering, merchandising, corporate hospitality suites, VIP areas, official and technical areas and BOH operational areas.

We are then back at Dundonald Links for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open Championship from the 27th – 30th July.  Once again, we expect some big crowds as some of the leading ladies of the game compete for the Ladies Scottish Open title.

The following week, we move to the other side of the country to provide our full range of services for the Scottish Seniors Open which is being played at the superb Renaissance Club at North Berwick from the 4th – 7th August.

These three events will keep us busy in Scotland for the next few weeks, however it doesn’t stop there; we are then off South of the border to provide our full range of cleaning and waste management services at the British Masters28th September – 1st October at the magnificent Close House course in Newcastle upon Tyne.  Long established in the world’s golfing calendar, the British Masters always attracts a fantastic field made up from some of the best players in the game.  We are looking forward to taking our experience and expertise South of the border for one of the biggest events in the golfing calendar.

We will be bringing you updates from each of these prestigious events as they happen, for now it’s heads down as we tee off with the AMM Scottish Open Championship this week.

Savoy Tower is a well known and long-established building on the Glasgow skyline, but it’s interior is rather more recent.  The newly refurbished building now provides a range of contemporary private offices and shared workspaces.  Operated by Clockwise, a company that provides well-designed work and meeting spaces in convenient city centre locations, Savoy Tower has been rejuvenated as a vibrant and appealing location for business owners.

The flexible contracts and efficient service provisions are specifically designed to deliver solutions to upwardly mobile business owners of all sizes in every sector.  So, Spectrum’s experienced in working in multi-tenanted buildings is a perfect fit for this exciting new high-end business environment.

Spectrum will be providing core cleaning services throughout the building in all work areas, meeting rooms and reception spaces.  We will also be providing full janitorial services looking after communal areas, hygiene services, window cleaning and consumable management.

Office environments of this nature have special requirements; with such a diverse range of users, it is important that we understand the individual requirements of each tenant and that we work around their business operation.  We are sure our knowledge and experience in this type of environment will be a massive benefit to Clockwise and each of the tenant businesses.

It is great to see landmark buildings being refurbished to meet the changing needs of businesses and we are sure Savoy Tower is set to move in an upward (clockwise) direction, and we are happy to be playing a part in the journey.

If you are interested in finding out more about the facilities on offer from Clockwise at Savoy Tower, please visit their website at workclockwise, and don’t forget to tell them who sent you!

It’s a Royal celebration at Spectrum this week…

Highland Cow

When you mention Ingliston in Edinburgh you could be forgiven for immediately thinking about the Royal Highland Show; after all, it is a world renowned agricultural show that attracted almost 190,000 visitors over the 4-day event in 2016.  However, Ingliston’s proper name is, Royal Highland Centre, one of the busiest event venues in Scotland and Spectrum Service Solutions is delighted to announce this fantastic facility is our latest contract win and most recent new client.

The contract was won in a competitive tender and will see Spectrum provide a range of cleaning and waste management services for the venue and many events it hosts every year.

The Royal Highland Centre is a truly unique venue offering over 18,000m² of covered exhibition space encompassing four halls, substantial outdoor areas including 110-acres of parkland, the main arena, a unique track area and parking for 20,000 vehicles – hardly surprising then that plays host to over 200 events and attracts over 1,000,000 visitors every year.

The contract win is great news for the company, but in particular for the Events division.  The contract win further enforces Spectrum’s position as the leading provider of cleaning and waste management services to the event industry.  We are pleased to be building on our portfolio of event venues which already includes Hampden Park in Glasgow, and to be adding to the list of events where we provide our services which have included the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (7 venues), the Ryder Cup Matches at Gleneagles, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and the Kiltwalk.

We are looking forward to working with the team at the Royal Highland Centre and to another busy year for our Events division, we have many big events coming up which we will be announcing over the next few weeks.

When flexibility is not just an added benefit, it’s a critical ingredient…

Scottish Ambulance Service

There are certain things we all take for granted, but one of our recent contract wins has reminded us of the care and attention applied ever day to a service that exists for all of us, even though we hope we never need to use it, it is of course the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Won via Government tender, Spectrum has just been awarded the cleaning contract for 7 Scottish Ambulance Service locations throughout East Lothian, including the main Edinburgh City station at South Gyle.

The contract is to provide daily cleaning services in all locations and all Spectrum staff working on the contract are fully trained in infection control to NCSS standards.  Cleaning the 7 ambulance stations is a big responsibility, however the contract also includes daily ambulance cleaning where we need to apply the most rigorous standards each and every time.

Our guess is that most people have never even thought about the need to clean an ambulance on a daily basis, far less to such exacting standards.  As you can imagine, the time that an ambulance is ‘out of service’ is critical, so we have an hour allocated for each vehicle, but during this hour we need to carry out a thorough deep clean.  This means the removal and cleaning of all equipment, deep cleaning the inside of the ambulance and replace the equipment ready for use.

Off course, planning and experience should streamline this kind of operation, but as you can appreciate, the ambulances don’t come and go to a set schedule, so our cleaning personnel provide a reactive response so that they are ready to perform the operation when it suits the Scottish Ambulance Service to take a vehicle out of service.

We are delighted to be working with such dedicated professionals and to be playing a part in a critical service.  We truly believe in the benefits of teamwork and we take pride in the tailored approach we take to every cleaning contract, it’s very much part of the added value we strive to achieve at Spectrum, but in the case this contract, our flexible approach to client’s needs is an essential ingredient in providing a first-class service.

Made to measure for Schuh

We are delighted to introduce our latest client interview video, this time with Nicky McLellan, Facilities Coordinator for Schuh at their Distribution Centre in Bathgate and their Head Office building in Livingstone.

Spectrum is delighted to work at both locations and we were pleased that Nicky was able to take time to chat about the range of services we provide at each of the location.

You would be forgiven for thinking that Schuh is a German retail brand, in fact the name was inspired by the German fashion footwear magazine, Schuhe. However, Schuh began with one store in Edinburgh back in 1981 and has grown to be one of the biggest high street retailers in the UK and Ireland.  Fittingly, their first retail venture in Europe was in Oberhausen, Germany where they opened a store in 2015.

Throughout the noughties, Schuh’s online presence grew to meet the demand of consumers who were increasingly willing to buy footwear online.  The innovative retailer has carried on its tradition of challenging conventional retailing with its ecommerce offering with the introduction of initiatives like 365 day customer service.

The fantastic expansion of the retail outlets and the growth of the online store created the obvious need for high quality head office accommodation and a highly efficient distribution centre, both are now firmly established in central Scotland.

Spectrum is delighted to provide a full range of services to both centres.  These services include; routine daily cleaning of offices, toilets, shower rooms, locker rooms, Board and meeting rooms, stairways, receptions, restaurants, break out areas and kitchens.  These daily services also include a full waste management service at both sites.

In addition to this we provide, IT equipment deep cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, window cleaning, deep cleaning of flooring in the retail outlet, and deep cleaning and sanitation of work stations.  All in all, it is a comprehensive range of services specially tailored to suit the Schuh operation and ensure the head office and distribution centre are always clean and ready for their busy workforce 24 hours a day.

To compliment the cleaning services, we also supply a wide variety of products and consumables for their washrooms, hand sanitisers and feminine hygiene toilet vending machines.  In addition to this, we provide barrier matting, logo mats and even temporary barrier matting for inclement weather.

We are grateful to Nicky for taking the time to talk about the Spectrum service and a little about why he chose to work with Spectrum.  We hope you find the video useful, and if you have any questions about the services we provide in Livingston and Bathgate, please email us at info@spectrumservicesolutions.com or call us on 0141 887 5000, we will be delighted to assist in any way we can.
