Our hearts are truly in the latest contract win

Spectrum is no stranger to football, we have enjoyed a first-class relationship with Hampden Park for 10 years, so we are used to preparing stadiums for match days.  This experience was invaluable in helping us secure our latest contract in a competitive tender process. We are delighted to announce that we will be providing a wide range of services for Heart of Midlothian Football Club at Tynecastle Park in Edinburgh.

The football club is well into its ambitious redevelopment of the stadium which will see the capacity extended to over 20,000.  The plans also include new hospitality suites and corporate entertainment areas throughout the ground.  Furthermore, there will be significant upgrades to the main Reception Area, Players’ Lounge, Media Suite and Police Control Room.  On completion, Tynecastle is set to be one of the best football stadiums in the country.

Spectrum is delighted to have been selected to provide daily office cleaning and event cleaning services, pre and post match deep cleans, window cleaning, consumables, function suite cleaning, waste services, external cleaning and specialist cleaning.  And to kick it all off, we will be providing the initial sparkle clean when the redevelopment is complete.

Speaking about the contract win, Sara Speirs, Managing Director at Spectrum said, “We are very excited about this latest win.  The redevelopment of Tynecastle Park is a major investment for the club and it will provide one of the best football facilities in the country, naturally we are delighted to be involved with a club that clearly has big ambitions on and off the pitch.  We are looking forward to working with the team at Hearts in the future”.

 

The chemistry is right at Grangemouth…

We are delighted to announce another two contract wins, this time at Scotland’s prime chemicals site in Grangemouth.

CalaChem is one of the UK’s leading fine chemicals manufacturers and a key provider of services at the Grangemouth site.  CalaChem operate two business units; custom manufacturing is provided from their five chemicals manufacturing plants, and their Services division provides such as utilities, effluent treatment, facilities management and property management to companies on the Earls Gate Park site adjacent to the Grangemouth manufacturing site

Separately, but within the same development, we will be providing a range of services to international market leader, FujiFilm.  For them we will be providing cleaning services in the offices, canteen areas, mess rooms and locker rooms.  This will also include hygiene and washroom services, waste disposal services (including confidential waste), laundry services and the provision of bottled water.

For CalaChem, we will be providing cleaning and janitorial services to offices, kitchens, toilets, laboratories, mess rooms, changing rooms and locker rooms.  In addition, we will be providing reception services and management services for stores, consumables, water and pest control.

Once again, the team at Spectrum are delighted to be involved with companies that are market leaders, at a site which plays a major part in Scotland’s chemical industry.

These contract wins are the latest in a string of successes we’ve been reporting since the start of 2017, it is testament to the hard work and dedication shown throughout the team at Spectrum.  It certainly has been an exceptional period and we’re looking forward to bringing you news of other new contracts over the summer months.

We Are Glasgow Business Awards Finalists!

We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for not one, but two awards in the Glasgow Business Awards this year – we are finalists in the Best Performing Business (51+ Employees) and Excellence in Customer Service categories.

We’re no stranger to the Glasgow Business Awards, having been shortlisted in the Excellence in Customer Service category back in 2015. Customer service has always been the driving force behind our business and so to be shortlisted for another award recognising this is a great achievement for us.

The awards, now in their 20th year and organised by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, are firmly established as the highlight of the Glasgow business calendar. Celebrating forward-thinking and innovative businesses in and around Glasgow, they consistently attract quality entrants from around Glasgow and so it’s a compliment to face such tough competition.

The dinner and glittering awards ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow is always a fantastic night and on the 5th October we look forward to celebrating with the other great businesses competing for the trophy – we’d like to wish them the best of luck and may the best business win!

Spectrum’s Love proves vital in a tense affair…

Here at Spectrum Service Solutions we are used to bringing you details about the events at which we work; indeed, we’ve been involved in some of the biggest sporting events hosted in Scotland over the past few years.  However, this time we’re delighted to bring you news of one of the biggest sporting events that one of our staff has ever been involved in – The Scottish Championship play-off final.

Spectrum Site Facilities Manager, Ally Love, played an important role for Brechin City in the final which was played over two legs last week.  Having beaten Alloa Athletic 1-0 in first leg at Glebe Park, it was always going to be an exciting game for the return match at The Indodrill Stadium and it certainly didn’t disappoint – Alloa Athletic eventually ran out 4-3 winners to take the game to extra time and then to penalties.

It was the second time in little over a week that Ally and his teammates faced a very tense penalty shoot-out; Raith Rovers witnessed Ally’s cool head in the semi-final shoot-out as he slotted away one of Brechin’s penalties, and Alloa Athletic suffered a similar experience as his nerve held once more to score from the penalty spot on Saturday.

Brechin City won 5-4 on penalties and will now play in the 2nd tier of Scottish football next season.  Congratulations go to Ally and his teammates as they enjoy a well deserved break before the start of a new challenge next season.

For Spectrum, the football season is not quite finished yet, we have the Scottish Cup Final this today at Hampden Park, and then we have the small matter of Scotland v England on the 10th June for what is sure to be an exciting World Cup Qualifier.

2017, our busiest start to a year – thanks to our valued employees…

The first few months of 2017 have been the busiest we’ve ever experienced at Spectrum Service solutions; we’ve renewed lots of contracts and won some exceptional new work to add to our growing portfolio.  What’s even better is that many of these new contracts have been won in competitive tenders; recently we’ve brought you news of contract wins at Barony UniversalWyman-Gordon and Scottish Ambulance Service, and we have a few more to announce in the coming days and weeks.

Of course, our valued long-established clients have also been keeping us busy, whilst the events division has already seen two cup semi-finals at Hampden Park and the first event for Kiltwalk 2017.  All of this has meant we’ve fallen behind with our Employee of the Month announcements.

The growth of Spectrum Service Solutions wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and hard work put in by each and every employee, so whilst we may not have announced the winners recently, we have still selected them as usual, and we will continue to celebrate their efforts in this manner in the future.  So, to bring the record up-to-date, we have pleasure announcing three winners at once.

Graham Allan

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH – JANUARY 2017

Graham PicGraham is a true Spectrum success story and we are delighted he was the first Employee of the Month in 2017.

Graham joined the company in May 2014 after attending a joint workshop hosted by Spectrum Service Solutions and Jobs & Business Glasgow which aimed to get unemployed candidates back into work. During this training session we covered information about the Industry, practical task training and provided advice on how to interview and gain employment.

Fortunately, we managed to offer employment to all the attendees; each were offered work at the Commonwealth Games which, for many, led to sustainable long-term employment. We are also proud to say that many of them are still working with Spectrum today.

With his polite and professional approach, Graham stood out immediately.  His attitude was not only confined to fellow employees, but also with our customers.  This, coupled with his work ethic and eye for detail has made it easy to invest in upskilling him; three years on, he is now our Site Manager for Hampden Park Events as well as Supervisor for many other events and specialist cleans.  Graham also provides cover for many skilled roles within the business and it’s not uncommon for our customers to specifically request he stays on their site permanently – a testament to his excellent attitude.

A big thank you and congratulations go to Graham for being the first Employee of the Month for 2017.

Angela Hopkinson

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH – FEBRUARY 2017

Angela PicOur second Employee of the Month for 2017 went to Angela Hopkinson. Angela has been working with Spectrum since August 2014; Like Graham, she initially worked at Hampden Park during the Commonwealth Games and since then we were able to offer her long-term employment at one of the large call centre sites where we deliver facilities management services.  Angela’s growth has reflected the customer site where she works; as the business has grown, Angela has progressed and is now Supervisor on site and successfully leads a team of like-minded hard working individuals.

Our client, Siobhan Curley, Facilities Co-ordinator, was kind enough to write a few words about the work Angela does on their site, “Angela is a fantastic help, not only with her job role within Ascensos, but also always goes that extra mile to help the business out in many ways. She is a conscientious, meticulous and loyal worker and she has set the benchmark for cleaning standards and truly represents the values of Spectrum Service Solutions.”

Well done Angela for being named the second Employee of the Month for 2017, your hard work is much appreciated.

Carol Cramb

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH – MARCH 2017

carol PicThe March Employee of the Month award went to Carol Cramb.   Carol is a perfect example of how we develop talent at Spectrum; we always aim to develop and upskill our employees meaning we have greater opportunities to promote from within. Carol joined the business just under one year ago and due to her hard work, growth and previous experience, she is now beginning her new role as Area Manager (East).

Carol began working for Spectrum in a large call centre that we service in Edinburgh and at an early stage it was clear she was not only an exemplary employee, but also a very hard working and capable leader. Over time, Carol became stand-in Supervisor looking after a team of six, she mentored and developed them into a strong team to ensure we are delivering the flexibility required by the customer to the highest possible standard.

This year Carol has been involved in many projects such as the mobilisation of the Scottish Ambulance Stations in Lothian and the two new Citibase sites we have recently been awarded in Edinburgh City and The Gyle. Carol is a hands-on manager, she enjoys working alongside her teams to support and develop them.

Congratulations Carol, we look forward to your valuable contribution to the company in the future, and to watching you develop your new role.

Spectrum pressing ahead with another major contract win…

Spectrum is pleased to announce another major contract win, this time in Wyman-Gordon’s PCC Forged Products manufacturing plant in Livingston.

Wyman-Gordon’s Livingston facility supplies forged products globally to the aerospace market.  Noted for its massive 30,000 ton hydraulic multi ram closed-die cast press, the plant is a key part of the company’s global operations.  Working in partnership with sister plants in Lincoln and Plzen in the Czech Republic, the plant not only produces forged products for the aerospace industry, it also manufactures finished seamless pipe for the energy markets worldwide.

Spectrum will be providing daily cleaning services in the office and associated areas, break out areas, canteen, showers and locker rooms.  The contract will also see the provision of full-time janitorial services and a programme of scheduled deep cleaning at the plant.

Wyman-Gordon Building

We are delighted to once again be announcing a contract win with a global organisation and market leader, we look forward to working with the team at Wyman-Gordon in the delivery of this valuable contract.  Spectrum’s Managing Director, Sara Speirs remarked on the contract win, “It has been a momentous start to 2017 with several contract wins and many more under discussion.  Winning the Wyman-Gordon contract is particularly satisfying because we won it via competitive tender, and once again, we will be working with a major global business that play an important part in the Scottish economy.”

No universal approach for our latest contract win…

We are delighted to announce another fantastic contract win, this time at Barony Universal in Irvine, Ayrshire.

Barony Universal is the largest independent aerosol manufacturer in the UK, with huge specialist expertise in contract fill and own-label products.  The business has a particular focus on R&D, manufacture, packaging and distribution for health and beauty related products.

Barony Universal operate from an 18 acre site in Irvine where they have a demand for a wide range of cleaning and waste management services.  This contract will draw on the expertise and experience we have developed from working in office, R&D, manufacturing and distribution environments with other clients across Scotland.

Spectrum is delighted to provide a full range of services at the Barony Universal plant at Irvine.  These will include: routine daily cleaning of offices, toilets, shower rooms, locker rooms, Board and meeting rooms, stairways, receptions, break out areas and kitchens.  These daily services also include a full waste management service for the site.

In addition to this we provide, IT equipment deep cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, window cleaning, deep cleaning of flooring in the retail outlet, and deep cleaning and sanitation of work stations.  As with all large-scale contracts there is no universal approach, Spectrum’s comprehensive range of services is specially tailored to suit Barony Universal’s operation and will ensure all of the facilities on site are clean and ready for their workforce each day.

Made to measure for Schuh

We are delighted to introduce our latest client interview video, this time with Nicky McLellan, Facilities Coordinator for Schuh at their Distribution Centre in Bathgate and their Head Office building in Livingstone.

Spectrum is delighted to work at both locations and we were pleased that Nicky was able to take time to chat about the range of services we provide at each of the location.

You would be forgiven for thinking that Schuh is a German retail brand, in fact the name was inspired by the German fashion footwear magazine, Schuhe. However, Schuh began with one store in Edinburgh back in 1981 and has grown to be one of the biggest high street retailers in the UK and Ireland.  Fittingly, their first retail venture in Europe was in Oberhausen, Germany where they opened a store in 2015.

Throughout the noughties, Schuh’s online presence grew to meet the demand of consumers who were increasingly willing to buy footwear online.  The innovative retailer has carried on its tradition of challenging conventional retailing with its ecommerce offering with the introduction of initiatives like 365 day customer service.

The fantastic expansion of the retail outlets and the growth of the online store created the obvious need for high quality head office accommodation and a highly efficient distribution centre, both are now firmly established in central Scotland.

Spectrum is delighted to provide a full range of services to both centres.  These services include; routine daily cleaning of offices, toilets, shower rooms, locker rooms, Board and meeting rooms, stairways, receptions, restaurants, break out areas and kitchens.  These daily services also include a full waste management service at both sites.

More awards success for Spectrum…

Less than a week after being highly commended in the Director of the Year category at the UK IoD Awards in London, Sara Speirs has received another award for Spectrum Service Solutions – Business Women Scotland SME of the Year 2016.

The Business Women Scotland Annual Awards took place at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel and Sara’s category saw her shortlisted along with five other very deserving businesses for the SME of the Year Award.

Speaking shortly after winning the awards, Sara said,  “It really has been an amazing few days, first in London last week at the IoD National Awards and now here in Glasgow.  I’m obviously delighted to have won tonight, especially when you see the quality of the other shortlisted businesses.  Once again, it’s down to the whole team, without them Spectrum would not have won tonight.”

The awards season is not over for Sara or Spectrum, on the 18th November she will be at the Normandy Hotel for the ROCCO Annual Awards where Spectrum are shortlisted for two awards and Sara is shortlisted for the prestigious Business Leader of the Year Award.  So, we will enjoy a short celebration this weekend and then it’s back to work and fingers crossed for the ROCCO’s.

 

Highly Commended in the National IoD awards – A massive achievement

We are extremely pleased and proud of our Managing Director, Sara Speirs, who was Highly Commended in the ‘SME Company Director of the Year’ category of the IoD UK awards in London earlier today.

Sara’s category was the biggest at the awards with 13 magnificent finalists from all over the UK, so we are delighted that her achievements were recognised and that she received the commendation.  We are also proud that she was the only female finalist at the awards ceremony from Scotland.  All in all it has been a fantastic journey since winning the ‘IoD Director of the Year Award’ in Scotland back in March this year.

The annual awards ceremony took place this afternoon at a glittering awards lunch in London’s Lancaster Hotel.  There were around 90 finalist across the twelve categories and Sara was only one of five who were from Scotland.

Speaking shortly after the announcement Sara said, “I was delighted to win in Scotland and pleasantly surprised to be shortlisted for the UK finals, and to be Highly Commended among such worthy finalists is very special.  I’m pleased for myself, but even more so for the whole team at Spectrum, it’s their dedication and hard work that earns every award, even the ones with my name on the certificate, I am pleased for each and every one of them”. 

Congratulations to all of today’s winners, however we think everyone shortlisted for these highly prestigious awards was already a winner, especially our Managing Director – well done Sara.
